Senior Cloud Engineering Consultant

Overview of the Role

As a Senior Cloud Consultant, you work alongside our customers and internal architecture teams to design and implement cloud native platforms for large scale enterprises for multiple mission critical applications.

When it comes down to it, the skills required for this job are less about knowing specific technologies and more about communication and the ability to learn quickly. This job requires constant learning and communication. Communication with clients, colleagues, community, and hardest of all yourself. Helping clients and coworkers, to understand what is expected of them and for them, as well as ensuring that everyone involved is aware of what the goals are and what is going on such that everyone is aligned on understanding and expectations. Perhaps more importantly is calling out when understandings are not aligned or expectations are mismatched and ensuring that conversations occur to reset, clarify, and align. And finally, always be looking out for more recommendations on how to help our customers be successful and achieve their goals.

Knowledge Expectations

A Senior Cloud Engineering Consultant must have solid knowledge in two or more of these areas

  • Excellent understanding in two or more AWS, Google, Azure or VMware architectures.
  • Ability to build and deploy a kubernetes cluster.
  • Ability to build and deploy Cloud Foundry.
  • Ability to program in either Ruby, Python, C/C++, Java, Rust or Go.
  • Ability to build Microservices.
  • Ability to understand someone else’s code.
  • Ability to teach CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Gitops, Concourse).
  • Ability to teach Version control systems (Github, bitbucket, Subversion, Flyway, etc).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver thought leadership, design and implementations on Cloud Native solutions.
  • Help create the internal Cloud Native roadmaps, including grooming backlog based on your experience and knowledge of what it takes to move large organizations.
  • Lead and participate in the hands-on technical delivery of user stories.
  • Coach and mentor cloud engineers on how to leverage automation and techniques.
  • Guide and influence technical and commercial Director/VP stakeholder relationships.
